Many folks ask us, “Why is the name ‘Bill Brundige’ so familiar ?” You may remember it from the sports world. Bill enjoyed 40 successful years in sports broadcasting on radio and television.
Along that path, he covered games for the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Angels, the LA Lakers, USC Football, UCLA & USC Basketball, the Detroit Lions , the “Whiz Kids” Phillies of the 1950’s, the NFL Pro Bowl games, the former Washington Senators, and a number of college football, baseball and basketball teams, including Notre Dame, Army, and Princeton.
During World War II, he served as West Coast Sports Director for the Armed Forces radio service, and received the “Helms Athletic Foundation Award” in recognition of his entertainment contributions to the service men and women in the Pacific.
Bill’s late wife Jane took pride in the fact that Bill hosted California’s very 1st remote television broadcast at the RCA Exhibit of the Golden Gate International Exposition on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay in 1939 ! Another career highlight was appearing in a television production with famed actor Lionel Barrymore directed by the legendary Frank Capra (“It’s A Wonderful Life”, and “It Happened One Night”).
He was a fixture in Southern California radio and television in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s with sports talk shows on channels 2,4,5,7,9,11, and 13. He had numerous guest appearances on the Donna Reed Show, Perry Mason, and played a detective on the Dragnet series.
In 1994, he was inducted into the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Hall of Fame joining his friends Tom Harmon, Bob Kelly, Jerry Doggett, Sam Balter, Fred Hessler. He was awarded the “Golden Mike” twice by his peers recognized as the top sports broadcaster in Southern California.
Bill retired from broadcasting after a successful stint on radio station KEZY in Anaheim.
